Preparing for Your Lash Appointment

To ensure you have the best experience and long-lasting results, please follow these guidelines before your service:

  • Arrive with Clean Lashes: Please arrive with completely clean lashes and eyelids, free of any makeup. For best results, use an oil-free cleanser. Clean lashes allow for a stronger bond, meaning your extensions will last longer.

  • Be on Time: Please arrive 10 minutes early to find parking, use the restroom, or clean your lashes of mascara/makeup if needed. Arriving late may shorten your appointment time.

  • No Curled Lashes: Do not curl your natural lashes on the day of your appointment. We need your lashes in their most natural state for the best application.

  • Avoid Caffeine: Please avoid coffee, tea, or other caffeinated beverages before your appointment. Caffeine can cause your eyelids to flutter, making application more difficult.

  • Remove Contacts: If you wear contact lenses, we recommend removing them before your service to avoid any discomfort. We can provide solutions and cases for you.

Your Mellowlashbar Experience: What to Expect During Service

We've designed our space and service to be a peaceful escape. For the duration of your service, your main job is simply to relax. Here’s how you can help us create the perfect lashes for you.

  • Embrace the "Lash Nap": This is your opportunity to rest. You will be lying down comfortably with your eyes closed for the entire service. Many of our clients fall asleep! You are welcome to bring your own headphones if you'd like to listen to music or an audiobook to help you unwind.

  • The Importance of Stillness: The key to a flawless lash application is a still canvas. For your safety and for the best outcome, it is crucial that you keep your eyes gently closed and avoid opening them until we let you know the service is complete. The tools we use are very precise, and keeping your eyes still ensures your safety and perfect application.

  • Quiet Please: While we love to catch up with you, talking causes facial muscles to move and eyelids to flutter. This can affect the placement and longevity of your lashes. Let's save the conversation for before and after your service so you can get the most out of your appointment time.

  • A Digital Detox: To ensure a serene and uninterrupted experience for everyone in our studio, we ask that all phones be silenced and put away. Please do not take phone calls or answer texts during the application.

Caring for Your Mellowlashbar Extensions

Congratulations on your beautiful new lashes! To ensure they remain stunning and healthy for as long as possible, please follow these aftercare instructions carefully. Proper care is key to protecting your natural lashes and extending the life of your extensions.

The Golden Rule: The First 24 Hours
The adhesive used to apply your lashes needs a full 24 hours to cure and create the strongest possible bond. During this critical time, you must avoid all moisture. This includes:

  • Showering (or take a bath instead)

  • Swimming

  • Saunas, steam rooms, and hot yoga

  • Any activity that causes excessive sweating

Your Daily Lash Routine

  • Cleanse Your Lashes (Morning & Night): It is crucial to clean your lashes daily with a gentle, oil-free cleanser. This removes natural oils, dust, and makeup residue that can break down the adhesive and prevent eye infections. To wash, apply the cleanser with a soft brush or Q-Tip, gently sweeping downwards from the base to the tip. Rinse thoroughly with cool water and pat the surrounding area dry with a lint-free towel.

  • Brush and Fluff: Once your lashes are completely dry, use your clean spoolie to gently brush through them. This detangles the extensions and keeps them looking perfectly separated and fluffy.

Products and Habits to Avoid

  • No Oil-Based Products: Oil is the number one enemy of lash adhesive. Carefully check the ingredients of your makeup, removers, cleansers, and eye creams. Using oil-free products around the eye area is essential for longevity.

  • Skip Mascara and Lash Curlers: Lash extensions are designed to eliminate the need for mascara. Applying mascara can cause clumping, create buildup that is difficult to clean, and the removal process can damage your extensions. Mechanical curlers can break both the extension and your natural lash.

  • Hands Off: The oils on your fingers can weaken the adhesive bond. Avoid the temptation to rub, pick, or twist your lashes, as this can lead to premature shedding and damage your natural lashes.

  • Sleep Smart: Sleeping on your stomach or directly on your face can crush and damage your extensions. Try to sleep on your back. If you are a side sleeper, consider using a silk or satin pillowcase to minimize friction and prevent snagging.

Long-Term Maintenance

  • Regular Refills are Essential: On average, you shed 2-5 natural lashes per day. To keep your lashes looking consistently full and beautiful, we recommend booking a refill appointment every 2 to 3 weeks. This allows us to replace the extensions that have shed or to long and keep your lashes healthy.

Caring for Your Glue-less Lash Lift

Congratulations on your new, effortlessly curled lashes! This treatment enhances your natural beauty, and with the right care, you can enjoy the results for weeks.

The Golden Rule: The First 24 Hours
Immediately after your service, the bonds in your eyelashes are still neutralizing and setting into their new lifted position. The aftercare during this window is crucial for the longevity and success of your lift.

For the first 24 hours, please strictly avoid:

  • Water & Moisture: Do not get your lashes wet. Be mindful when washing your face and showering.

  • Steam, Saunas & Heat: All forms of high heat and humidity can cause the lift to relax and drop.

  • Eye Makeup: Applying or removing makeup can interfere with the setting process.

  • Rubbing or Touching: Be gentle with your eyes and avoid any friction.

  • Sleeping on Your Face: This can bend or kink the lashes while they are still malleable.

Long-Term Care for Healthy, Lifted Lashes
Once the initial 24 hours have passed, you can resume most of your normal activities with a few key recommendations:

  • Daily Brushing: Use a clean spoolie to brush your lashes upward every morning. This helps keep them styled, separated, and looking their best.

  • Gentle Cleansing: When removing makeup, use an oil-free cleanser and gentle, downward motions. Avoid scrubbing or rubbing your eyes.

  • Avoid Waterproof Products: Waterproof mascara and eyeliner require extensive rubbing and oil-based removers to take off, both of which can weaken the lift and be harsh on your natural lashes.

Understanding Your Lash Cycle & Booking Your Next Appointment
A lash lift does not wear off; it grows out. Your lashes have a natural shedding cycle of about 4-6 weeks. As your lifted lashes fall out, new, straight lashes will grow in their place. To maintain the lifted effect, we recommend scheduling your next appointment in 4-6 weeks, but no less than a month from your last service.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Q: What if a lash extension twists or flips?

    • A: This is completely normal! Simply use your clean spoolie to gently brush the lash back into place, starting from the base and rolling upwards.

  • Q: My eyes feel a little red or itchy right after my appointment. Is this normal?

    • A: Mild, temporary redness can be normal due to the eye pads and having your eyes closed. However, if you experience any persistent itching, swelling, or significant discomfort, please contact us immediately as this could be a sign of a sensitivity.

  • Q: Can I still wear eyeliner or eyeshadow?

    • A: Yes! Just be sure to use oil-free products. We recommend powder-based eyeshadows and a liquid, non-waterproof eyeliner. Be very gentle when removing the makeup at the end of the day.
